Late show as NYCFC’s Stars continue to align

Saturday night saw New York City FC’s pieces continue to fall into place, claiming the morale boosting scalp of a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The result owed much to the notable improvement of designated midfield star Frank Lampard.

The English midfielder was on the end of an Angelino cross to put his side in front and despite a second-half Vancouver onslaught that saw Chilean maestro Pedro Morales equalise from the penalty spot on the 88th minute. Lampard would earn his side a very late penalty which was converted by Captain and fellow Designated ace David Villa, giving New York an unlikely, but much needed three points.

The irony, however, being that yet another veteran in the form of ex-Chelsea teammate Didier Drogba continues to overshadow with the Montreal Impact, also frustrating any playoff aspirations NYCFC may have.
