Wellington Phoenix winger Kosta Barbarouses has spoken of the differences between Kevin Muscat and new boss Ernie Merrick.

Barbarouses swapped Muscat’s Victory for Merrick’s Wellington at the end of the 2015-16 A-League season, drawing to a close a successful three-year stay in Melbourne in favour of a return to his hometown.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Football Show, Barbarouses outlined the contrasting personalities between the two managers.

“Because Ernie’s been a manager for however long he has been, he knows exactly how he wants to deal with everybody and he’s pretty relaxed about it,” he said.

“He’s not afraid to say what’s on his mind, and he knows that’s the best way to get his point across.

“Whereas Musky (Kevin Muscat) was more full-on and he wanted to be known to be involved with everything.

“Ernie delegates things where he knows he needs to overlook things and when he needs to be hands-on.

“The most important thing for a manger is to have the respect of his players and I think Ernie’s got that.”
