Outside90’s Daniel Fraiz-Martinez breaks down all the action to come out from the latest round of Major League Soccer.

Record breaking rookie Larin shows he has a New York State of mind

In what was undoubtedly the surprise result of the round, Orlando City SC claimed an unlikely 5-2 victory over the high-flying New York Red Bulls.

Inspired by rookie Canadian forward Cyle Larin, whose hat-trick (and knack to score against New York outfits) inspired his side to a resounding victory, that kept Orlando’s slim playoff hopes alive.

While the result owed much to the Red Bulls uncharacteristic kamikaze defending, allied to a wasteful end to the first-half, the silver-lining for Orlando (who are still highly unlikely to make the post-season festivities) would be the performance of their younger players and not just the standout Larin.

The likes of substitutes Carlos Rivas, and forward Bryan Rochez in particular, look well placed to make a greater impact in the next time out and with a full season under their belt. If they can retain a fit and healthy Kaka, then Orlando City SC should pose a much stronger threat.
