Carrasco should be given more opportunities While Óliver Torres has been playing well for Atléti on the wing, their opponents today would have made better for a winger than the young Spaniard, who is a natural centre-midfielder. Carrasco has not had that many chances in regards to league starts, with appearances off the bench more notable. Óliver struggled deeply today by Carvajal and it raises questions why Carrasco was overlooked for this fixture.

His dribbling and trickery caused all kinds of problems for Arbeloa and his defensive responsibilities always come with a determination and commitment that Simeone likes to see from his midfielders, which is important against a side like Real. With Martínez seemingly playing every second fixture, Carrasco has the perfect forward player to latch onto his crosses in the box and it was no surprise to see when Martínez was brought on so was the Belgium. With the 4-4-3 experimenting not quite working for his side yet, in Simeone’s preferred 4-4-2 formation, Carrasco should be given more chances to start.
