Daniel Carvajal’s injury a huge concern for Benitez

The right-back was superb up until he was injured, his continuous surging runs down the right-wing and threatening crosses caused Atléti all kinds of problems. His replacement Arbeloa was well beaten on the width time-and-time again by Carrasco, as his pace was too much for the experienced Spanish international. With important fixtures both within La Liga and against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League coming up, Benitez would want his whole core of his defensive lineup available, particularly Carvajal, who has looked impressive under the former Liverpool boss this season.

Navas cementing himself among Real Madrid fans

While most Real fans have always supported Navas at his time with the Madrid club, the speculation of David de Gea’s seemingly destined move to the Spanish capital was met with excitement and support by Real fans in the wake of Iker Casillas’ departure. When Manchester United wanted Navas as part of the deal, it looked like the Costa Rican’s career in Spain had come to an end. After the move came to nothing, with the exchange of goalkeepers and Navas staying put, the former Levante man has started in goals for Benitez’ side and delivered exceptional performances as of late to question Florentino Pérez and Real’s pursuit of De Gea. The reliability within goals shown by Navas has not been seen for some time and the fans are taking notice. If not for the Costa Rican today, Real would have received another embarrassing loss to their fierce rivals.
