Yet the hosts had the opportunity to equalise midway during the first term via a penalty as Spaniard Sergio Ramos ploughed through Tiago.
Fellow French international Antoine Griezmann took the spot kick but his shot was well within the range of goalkeeper Keylor Navas who pushed the ball away.
The match seemed all but finished for the hosts but in the 84th minute the equaliser finally arrived as Luciano Vietto struck from close-range.
Unfortunately for Los Blancos it still leaves them one point behind Catalan rivals Barcelona.
