Roman gladiators
Nothing summed up Roma’s superb display more than their work rate; they were immense in defence. Bodies were on the line and last-ditch challenges were made as Roma showed their gladiatorial nature. Daniele De Rossi was as ever the leader of Roma’s back line as the Giallorossi played with six in defence when Barcelona had the ball.
A more unlikely hero was Antonio Rudiger. The German centre-back made his debut for the club against the most formidable opponent of them all. Rudiger, however, rose to the occasion and showed the quality which has seen him capped six times for Germany. The centre-back pair of Rudiger and Kostas Manolas look like a great base for Roma to build on.
