De Jong impact
When Siem De Jong was signed the summer before last, then manager Alan Pardew wanted to build a team around the Dutchman. Injury has meant that De Jong has had little opportunity to show off his talent, but whenever he has been given a chance, he seems to be too pedestrian for the Premier League. Against Stoke he had the best part of 20 minutes to make an impact, and he only completed five passes – with only one of those going forward. It is past the point where one can blame his injury woes. It is time De Jong stepped up to the plate and became the influential player that Newcastle fans thought they would get when he signed.
