Both teams came into the match looking to bounce back from disappointing results in the league last weekend, and it was the Magpies who made all the early running, with young strike force Ayoze Perez and Aleksandr Mitrovic proving a handful. Chances were few and far between in the first half and despite a second half onslaught from the Magpies, the goal-keeping heroics of Stoke’s Jack Butland ensured that Newcastle remain in the bottom three.
