Real Madrid have turned their fortunes around with a 4-3 victory against Shakhtar Donestk at the Arena Lviv overnight.
Los Galacticos, after their crushing El Clasico defeat, were looking for a win to lift their spirits. They took the lead after only 18 minutes with Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo turning Gareth Bale’s strike over the line.
Croatian Luka Modric added his name to the scoresheet just prior to half time. All hopes for the hosts seemed to be all but crushed as the visitors continued their dominating play with Dani Carvajal’s left-footed bending shot further adding to Shakhtar’s woes.
The home side attempted to respond yet Los Blancos were in cruise control and it was not long before Ronaldo got his second of the match with a tap-in. Yet it was not over for the Spaniards as the hosts suddenly sprang into action.
Alex Teixeira converted from the spot and gave the match something of a momentum swing. A Dentinho header gave Shakhtar supporters hope with Teixeira scoring again for the hosts. However it was a case of too little too late with Real holding on to finish atop Group A and seal a spot in the round of 16.
