Stoke City have secured their first win of the season, outscoring an undermanned AFC Bournemouth side 2-1 at the Britannia Stadium on the weekend.

Bournemouth would play most of the game on the back foot having lost talisman Callum Wilson in the 15th minute of the game with a crippling knee injury.

The Potters took the lead early on at the Britannia after a surging run from Marko Arnautovic down the left-flank gave him the opportunity to square the ball for an oncoming and on target Jonathan Walters.

Three quarters through the game, Cherries midfielder Dan Gosling managed to put his side back on level terms with a well placed shot into the bottom-right of the Stoke goalmouth.

That was until substitute Mame Biram Diouf clinched the three points for the home side with a late headed effort, coming off a superb cross from Glenn Johnson.

The result means that Stoke City emerge from the relegation zone and sit two points clear in 17th place, while Bournemouth’s failure to capitalise means a drop from 10th to a lowly 16th place, a single point in front of Stoke.
