Stones, Everton superb in victory over champions
Ahead of this game there was inevitably a lot of talk about John Stones. The precocious young defender was the subject of much interest from Chelsea during the summer and this was a refreshing performance from both he and the team as a whole. Throughout he demonstrated such assurance and confidence beyond his years, reflecting why the champions were so desperate to sign him. Stones and Phil Jagielka laid the foundation that gave their teammates freedom to attack and exploit the glaring weaknesses in what was once a mean Chelsea defence. Despite a sustained period of pressure from the visitors, the Toffees held on and look to push further up the table from here.
