Newly appointed Melbourne Victory captain Carl Valeri comes in at number 12. Last season was his first in the A-League and he played in all 29 of the Victory’s games. He will be looking to emulate that feat as well as the success his team achieved in his new role as captain.
The quiet achiever of Victory’s 2014-15 midfield, Valeri’s defensive capabilities will be all the more important to the reigning champions in the wake of Mark Milligan’s departure.
This season sees a lot of responsibility fall on the 31-year-old but he has the intelligence and experience to produce another season’s worth of consistent solid performances to help his side attempt to go back-to-back.
