Leverkusen dominance lacking clinical edge

The home side was unlucky not to claim all three points against a dismal Augsburg. Roger Schmidt must be dumbfounded as to how his side did not win considering the amount of chances generated.

Leverkusen registered 22 shots on the Augsburg net, with 11 of them being on target and the post struck twice.

Skilful attackers Calhanoglu and Bellarabi were the biggest source of creation. The former delivered a number of free kicks throughout the duration of the match and one of them came close in the 93rd minute.

Lars Bender hit the post during a fantastic move by Leverkusen in the 50th minute via a marvellous one-touch pass from Calhanoglu. Calhanoglou was awarded a glorious chance to give his side the lead when a penalty was awarded via handball in the 70th minute. The Turkish international stepped up to the spot and to the shock of fans, he sent it over the bar.

The home side was so desperate to salvage the three points, even centre-half Kyriakos Papadopoulos was trying his luck at goal. Leverkusen came close to taking the lead on numerous occasions, but there was too many opportunities blatantly wasted.
