Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 1-1 home draw by FC Augsburg in a bizarre match that was the subject of a crazy Bernd Leno hit-and-miss own goal and a shocking Hakan Calhanoglu penalty miss.

It was a disastrous outcome for Leverkusen as they should have secured three points. The home side entered the match ninth on the table, the away side 17th.

Augsburg were extremely fortunate to leave the BayArena with a point in their grasp. It was the 11th minute when Leverkusen centre-half Jonathan Tah passed the ball back to goalkeeper Leno, however as the German attempted to clear the ball, he missed it, allowing the ball to skim off his boot and roll in for an own goal.

The home side did manage to equalise in the 39th minute thanks to winger Karim Bellarabi. Christoph Kramer orchestrated an attack by picking out Wendell. The Brazilian then completed a stunning pass to Javier Hernandez outside the box and Chicharito curled a wonderful shot into the post which was poached by Bellarabi to level the scores.
