Far from perfect execution

It was a sound strategy for the Socceroos to try and push the ball wide before crossing into the likes of Tim Cahill, unfortunately, these deliveries were too often way too close to the goalkeeper. Every goal either directly or indirectly came from a ball that was met outside of the six-yard box and away from the reach of the custodian. In the next phase of qualifying they will have less chances to get that perfect pass in and this is something that Ange Postecoglu may look to highlight that in his post match analysis. There were some poor touches from the usually reliable Massimo Luongo, which makes you wonder if his uncertain club future is weighing on his mind. Bailey Wright also cheaply gave away possession occasionally and Nathan Burns also had some poor touches when in an attacking position, however, the external factors may have played a role in that too.

Cahill and Mooy were excellent

Two clear superstars came out of this game. Aaron Mooy took hold of the attack and orchestrated the momentum from the middle of the park, being involved in the setup for three of the four goals. Meanwhile, scored his second international hat-trick in the first-half with an impressive header, a creative bit of improvisation and a deft touch. He probably should be winding down his international career at his age, but he looks better than ever.
