The defender is looking forward to being put to the test in the Socceroos’ upcoming Group B game in Jeddah.

Bailey Wright and fellow Socceroos team mates are relishing the opportunity to exert themselves in front of what is set to be a capacity stadium in Jeddah for Australia’s upcoming clash against Saudi Arabia, the defender says.

Speaking to media ahead of the game, the Preston North End centre-back revealed his excitement at being put through his paces in front of a hostile Saudi atmosphere in Jeddah.

“All of us have played in front of big crowds and are familiar with it,” the 24-year-old said.

“That’s what you want as a footballer; you want to play in nice stadiums, nice venues, against good teams with good atmospheres, and every time you do that there’s another great opportunity to represent your country and represent yourself.”

“I think all of us would much prefer a good, so-called, intimidating atmosphere because that’s what brings the best out of you.”

The Socceroos and Saudi Arabia both sit on top of Group B with six points from two matches after Australia defeated Iraq (2-0) and the United Arab Emirates (1-0) while Saudi Arabia defeated Thailand (1-0) and Iraq (2-1).

Australia has faced Saudi Arabia six times in full internationals with the Socceroos boasting a good record, winning four matches with one draw and a solitary defeat.

Their last meeting with Saudi Arabia was in September 2014 at Craven Cottage in London, where Wright made his debut for the Socceroos and went on to score in a 3-2 victory.
