Alvaro Morata just loves Champions League football

That is now five straight Champions League appearances in which Morata has scored. With goals coming against Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and Sevilla, the youngster has equalled Alessandro Del Piero’s record. Already a Champions League winner with Real Madrid in 2013-14, Morata is in search of his second title. He rose above two Sevilla defenders to get on the end of makeshift right-back Andrea Barzagli’s cross to send Juve 1-0 ahead with a lovely header.

Juve’s defence is still their greatest asset

Another masterclass from what is one of Europe’s finest defences, if not the best. Each member of the Juventus defensive line is averaging a pass succession rating of 92% or above, keeping possession smartly and dictating the tempo of the match. The Sevilla attack looked extremely frustrated chasing the ball all night with 66th minute Sevilla substitute Ciro Immobile only touching the ball twice. With Stephen Lichtsteiner going down injured, Martin Caceres temporarily suspended and Simone Padoin unregistered for UCL football, Juve were forced to start the central-minded Barzagli at right-back and the veteran put in an outstanding shift, even providing the assist for the opener. In two Champions League matches so far this campaign, the Juve defence has leaked one goal, an own-goal against Manchester City.
