Defence on show in Empoli

Italian football is widely known for resilient and well organised defending and although this has not been on display as often in recent years, Empoli brought it back against Lazio.

The Azzuri scored early and never looked back as Lazio piled on the pressure and shots on goal, even searching for a result by switching to a four-man forward line late in the match to no avail.

The result moved Empoli just one point behind their opponents on the table into 11th position.

Paulo Dybala’s homecoming is a winning one

The 22-year-old spent three very successful seasons in Sicily with the Rosaneri after moving away from Argentina and it was to be the first time he returned to his second home which earned him his €32 million transfer fee.

Juventus were comfortable for most of the match with Palermo not posing a threat on goal, which ensured a successful return for Dybala.

Mario Mandzukic scored his second goal of the week to mark his return to form while a rotation of the Juventus squad will keep the team fresh for its next spell of tough upcoming matches.
