Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy carved his name into English football history after scoring in his 11th successive Premier League game against Manchester United.

Having already equalled the record set by former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, Vardy was looking to break the record against the Dutchman’s former side on Saturday.

The fixture was an important one too with top spot up for grabs for either side. However, the focus for many was on the Leicester front man, who would have to find a way past a Manchester United defence that had only conceded nine Premier League goals all season.

The chance came 24 minutes in, when the home side broke away following a Manchester United corner kick.

Leicester City left-back Christian Fuchs found himself breaking forward on the right, before providing a delightful pass in behind the Manchester United defence and into the path of Vardy.

Time stood still as the moment had arrived for the 28-year-old to create history. You could have forgiven him for buckling under pressure, but Leicester’s number nine would not be denied.

The former non-league player struck the ball with certainty as it went beyond Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea and into the back of the net.

The King Power Stadium erupted with joy and neutrals all around the world would have joined in too as Vardy created history with one strike of the ball.

Commentator Peter Drury described the striker as a phenomenon and that is exactly what Vardy has been this season.

The dream story continues and once again Jamie Vardy is Outside90’s hero of the week.
