Things not looking good for Marseille

Not much was expected of Marseille this game. It was always going to be a tough match for them especially given their current form. A bright start did surprise and they took the lead early on thanks to Michy Batshuayi but Barrada was unable to convert a second half penalty that would have earned them a draw. The game was not one-sided and Marseille did put up a fight but do not look clinical enough. On-loan Newcastle playmaker Remy Cabella, for example, had a golden opportunity in the last minute but was denied at point-blank range by Trapp. It is also a case of silly mistakes for Marseille. Both PSG goals came from penalties, one a handball and the other Mandanda charging out to meet Ibrahimovic. The rest leaves Marseille in 16th and it looks a long way back up the table.

Not vintage PSG but they did enough

Laurent Blanc stated before the game he did not mind the performance, he just wanted to win. One thinks he will be happy with the result but his team still needs a bit of work to reach its potential. The midfield three of Thiago Motta, Marco Verrati and Blaise Matuidi did not look at their best and could not have the impact on the game they normally do. Angel Di Maria looked lively at times but needs to bring his blistering pace and mazy runs to the party more often. All in all, it was a solid PSG win but it was nothing like the special performance that fans are beginning to demand. With an international break coming up and the chance for some rest, expect PSG to come back firing on all cylinders.
