Celtic have secured qualification to the group stage of this season’s Champions League, advancing 5-4 on aggregate after a 2-0 loss away to H. Be’er Sheva.

Brendan Rodgers’ men survived a huge scare with their game plan to thwart their opponents unravelling after just 21 minutes, after Ben Sahar headed the hosts into the lead.

Socceroos midfielder Tom Rogic replaced James Forrest at the interval in an attempt to add some control in midfield and zest on the counter-attack for Celtic.

However, just three minutes after half-time and the home side doubled their advantage when Saidy Janko capitalised on a mix up between Obvidiu Hoban and Craig Gordon.

Celtic defended stoutly and did enough to hold on and send their travelling contingent into raptures at the final whistle.

The Scottish Premier League champions now stand to receive a combined total of £31.6m in revenue for making the Champions League for the first time in three years.

In the English League Cup second round, Bailey Wright and Jackson Irvine were given a rest after heavy league schedules and Mass Luongo came on in the 63rd minute to help secure a 2-1 win for QPR against Rochdale.
