Leicester City are in prime position to sign Sporting Lisbon’s Islam Slimani according to Sky sources.

The Premier League champions have closely tracked the striker’s performances of late but had their initial bid of £25 million rejected.

The Foxes have now made a new and improved bid of £30 million for the player, which has been agreed by the Portuguese club.

The signing would bolster Claudio Ranieri’s attacking options for the season, providing strong competition for striker Jamie Vardy.

Slimani also has a solid understanding with fellow Algerian international and Leicester City talisman Riyad Mahrez, and could prove dangerous given the opportunity.

The 28-year-old was prolific for the Leões in the Primeira Liga last season, finishing with 27 goals to his name and would be a welcome addition at the King Power Stadium.
