Frankfurt resilient

The scoreline could deceive fans into thinking it was completely one way traffic, but that was not the case. Yes, the home side were outplayed, but their resilience was fantastic. Not once did they drop their heads and lie down. From the get-go, the hosts were driving forward and applying pressure early on.

After falling two behind, it took just six minutes for Frankfurt to respond. Marc Stendera’s corner met the head of Slobodan Medojevic who made no mistake. Armin Veh’s men still managed to breach the Leverkusen defence, but failed to take advantage of the few chances they mustered.

In the latter stages of the match, centre-back Carlos Zambrano put his body on the line to prevent a fourth Leverkusen goal. The dedication was impressive.

In the 89th minute, Stefan Aiger had a glorious chance to make it 3-2 to give his side a late lifeline, but he blasted it over the bar.
