Eintracht Frankfurt were defeated 3-1 by a refreshed Bayer Leverkusen outfit on Saturday.

Roger Schmidt is all smiles after he and his side concluded the 90 minutes delighted with the splendid away result, which arrives at the perfect time following a string of disastrous outcomes.

Thanks to the return of Christoph Kramer, Omer Toprak slotted back into his predominant centre-back role following a few shifts in defensive midfield. This was a huge boost for the visitors.

It was a dominant performance by the away side despite a positive Frankfurt outfit. A Javier Hernandez brace and a pearler from Hakan Calhanoglu were enough to secure an important victory.

International break beneficial to Leverkusen

Many teams dread the inconvenience of the international break, but Leverkusen reaped the benefits of the break. Perhaps it was exactly what they needed after a tough couple of months.

Leverkusen appeared more potent in contrast to recent outings. The victory ended a brief losing streak of three matches in all competitions; it was the first time Leverkusen suffered this just over a year ago.

The overall structure of the BayArena outfit was impressive. The players were calm and composed at all times and the work rate was outstanding. Leverkusen emerged out of nowhere with an exceptional display, demonstrating how brilliant they can be.

What made the win even sweeter for Leverkusen was the fact that Frankfurt had only lost once in their last 16 home appearances at the Commerzbank Arena. It was just Leverkusen’s third away victory in all competitions in 2015-16.
