The 2016-17 A-League season is set to get started with a bang.

Kicking off on Friday 7 October, Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory will get the new campaign underway at Suncorp Stadium in a replay of last season’s breathtaking elimination final, which the Roar won 2-1.

Reigning champions Adelaide United will open their title defence away at Newcastle Jets on Sunday 9 October, but the standout fixture of matchday one is the opening Sydney Derby of the season. Western Sydney Wanderers will host Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium as part of a Saturday triple-header, and is one of two derbies to be played at the Homebush venue while Parramatta Stadium is redeveloped.

The Wanderers will take on Perth Glory as well as Melbourne Victory twice at the venue. Their other home games will be played at Spotless Stadium.

Hindmarsh Stadium will host the first grand final replay of the season in round two on Friday 14 October, and the reigning champions will play all their home matches there, including a round three blockbuster against fierce rival Victory.

Elsewhere, 2016-17’s opening Melbourne Derby will be played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday 15 October.

Football will return to Canberra’s GIO Stadium on Saturday 12 November, with Central Coast Mariners playing host to Wellington Phoenix.
