Perth Glory missed out on a home final after slipping to a disappointing 4-0 loss to Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium.

Sydney dominated the opening proceedings and Matt Simon and George Blackwood were both thwarted early, with the latter deemed offside by the linesman. The Sky Blues were rewarded for their endeavour on the half-hour mark, when the Shane Lowry’s clearance hit Alex Grant and fell into the path of David Carney, who slid the ball past Covic from close range. The goal gave Sydney confidence and they made it 2-0 before half time, when Filip Holosko embarked on a dazzling run into the box, before turning Lowry and slotting home.

Perth pushed men forward in the second half in an attempt to rescue the game, but Sydney were content to sit back and hit them on the break. As the Glory’s fullbacks looked to attack more, Sydney continued to take advantage of the vacant space in behind them and opened up their defence. Despite a silly red card to Holosko, Ali Abbas found space on the right and beat Covic with a fizzing shot late on to seal the points. Milos Ninkovic inflicted more pain on Perth with another goal on the break.
