Adelaide United took a step toward the 2015-16 A-League Premiers’ Plate with a 2-0 win over Melbourne City earlier tonight.
Isaias’ free-kick in the opening minutes bamboozled both the wall and goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen to give the Reds the perfect start.
The hosts looked to hurt Adelaide on the counter, but key figures such as Aaron Mooy and Bruno Fornaroli were isolated early. The Reds would go into the break 2-0 up due to some controversey after Sorensen collided into Stefan Mauk inside the area and Bruce Djite perfectly from the spot, yet both sides would explode at the halftime whistle leading to dramatic scenes from the tunnel.
City showed some better attacking intent in the second-half, yet it was Adelaide who would come closer to extending the lead with Dylan McGowan’s header which was disallowed just after the hour-mark.
John van’t Schip’s grew increasingly insipid as the match wore on, unable to present much of a test to Eugene Galekovic until the final minutes of the contest.
Adelaide move to the A-League summit and now need the Melbourne Victory to claim a positive result against the Brisbane Roar to seal the silverware.
Here are some of the best reactions to come from Twitter after the result:

Adelaide played like they wanted it more. We played like we already won the league and the last two games didn’t matter. #MCYvADL #together

Adelaide were rock solid, but City are bottling this season. Have way too much quality on paper not to make top 2 #MCYvADL
