Mariners lacklustre attack

This season has been all about the attack for the Mariners but for the first time this season they were kept scoreless. This comes down to their build up play in the final third as they lacked the movement and speed needed to break down a solid Western Sydney back four.

Their best chances came from crosses into the box as they lacked the creativity to get through the heart of the Wanderers defence. They decided to go with the two pronged attack in this match but the combination of Heffernan and O’Donovan just hasn’t clicked yet this season as the players looked almost like strangers on the pitch.

Wanderers go marching on

This win was the fifth in concession for the Western Sydney Wanderers as they move level on points at the top of the table with Melbourne Victory. Popovic has been able to rebuild his side in the off-season and they look to be back to their scintillating best. The creativity and attacking flair that Nichols has brought into the side is definitely something that the Wanderers fan can continue to admire as they continue their rise up the ladder.

The Spanish imports have also brought in some much needed composure and experience for the Wanderers which was lacking last season as they failed to close out games. But this has not been a problem so far this campaign as the hunt for more silverware is on the minds of the players and fans.
