Bayern are the very best
Not many teams can match Bayern even when at full tilt – only Barcelona spring to mind as a credible candidate. However, their first half display was poor, a few chances here and there, but too often their full-backs failed to provide any overlapping runs to support play effectively.
Bayern were in need of a spark in their attacking third so Pep Guardiola’s made a half-time substitution replacing Thiago Alcantara for Lewandowski. The striker was hungry, determined and in the right place at the right time, as he pounced on each and every opportunity which left the Bayern fans rocking and most of everyone else in world football shell-shocked.
When you consider that Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are still not fit, it’s remarkable to witness the sheer amount of strength in depth this team has. The trick for Bayern will be to replicate their scintillating second half performance on regular basis, which would leave the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona shaking in their respective boots come Champions League final knockout stages.
