Both teams looking forward
Bayern Munich now sit atop the Bundesliga after displacing an equally impressive Borussia Dortmund. As far as Bayern go, it’s just another standard season and the one key to their hopes of winning multiple trophies will be the fitness of key players at crucial stages of the season.
The signings of Diego Costa and Arturo Vidal have been wonderful additions that should provide prime coverage for any stars sidelined, especially ageing stars like Robben and Ribery.
For Wolfsburg it’s their first defeat of the campaign and they be keen to atone for their lacklustre second half performance against Hannover at the weekend. Can Bas Dost score five in nine minutes? Probably not, but in all seriousness Wolfsburg will be desperate to find defensive and mental solidity sooner rather than later.
Teams learn more about themselves in times of adversity, so how they respond in their next 90 minutes will be telling and could provide a snapshot of their league and European future.
