Mourinho’s frustration boiling over?

In what turned out to be a comfortable win by the end of the 90 minutes, reports flooded out of the stadium that at halftime Mourinho was arguing with star striker Costa over his work rate during the early stages, where he did fail to test the goalkeeper from three attempts on goal. The Spaniard remained on the field for the full match though and the ‘Special One’ would downplay any sort of confrontation, stating:

“I was disappointed. I reacted. He reacted too. At halftime in the dressing room [there were] a few kisses and a few cuddles.”

But the same sympathy was not shown for attacking compatriot Hazard, who was Chelsea’s first substitution of the match after another subdued performance.

Optimistic form ahead of key derby

Following-up last weekend’s 1-0 win over Norwich City, Mourinho and his players have returned from the latest international break

However, it is Sunday’s clash with Tottenham that will tell us whether these results have just been another false dawn. With the type of scoring form that the Spurs have exhibited over the last few weeks, a showing like those seen in the first three-months of 2015-16 will see Chelsea put to the sword in similar fashion to their 5-3 derby victory at White Hart Lane back in January. They will likely have to get the job done against the likes of Harry Kane without captain Terry, who was stretchered-off the field just after 70 minutes.

Whatever hopes remain for the season hang in the balance over the next few weeks, but the sort of determination shown to eventually take the legs out of a Maccabi team that were resolute even with 10 men, combined with the quality present on the teamsheet, means that nothing is impossible when the Blues are concerned.
