Dominant showing should make Mourinho think

Scorelines such as these have been far too rare for a team of Chelsea’s calibre this season and it was two of Jose Mourinho’s fringe players who played a big part in a result that has the fans smiling for the time being.

Having been given a brief taste of first team action in the Premier League, Baba Rahman still looks to be behind the returning Branislav Ivanovic in the pecking order, yet his performance at the Haifa International Stadium was among the best that any Chelsea defender has produced during this torrid campaign. The young Ghanain passed with 96% accuracy moving up the wing, sent seven crosses into the box (one of which ended in a goal), completed five tackles and made three interceptions. A relatively relaxed run of domestic fixtures heading into January should give Mourinho a chance to develop the 21-year-old when the stakes are higher.

Similar praise should be given to the efforts of Oscar, making his first starting appearance since the previous Champions League round at the beginning of the month. Recording his second goal of the tournament, the playmaker was a presence on both wings of the midfield, also passing with high quality and providing the assist for the final goal from a corner.
