The Blues recorded their first decisive result of the 2015-16 campaign with a 4-0 Champions League Group Stage win over Maccabi Tel Aviv.
It was the largely one-sided affair that all Chelsea faithful would have hoped for, yet, Eden Hazard’s attempted spot-kick inside the first 10 minutes will have observers asking just what is being put in the Stamford Bridge water this season. Finally being able to enjoy having the momentum of a match on their side, another penalty, this time cooly converted by Oscar doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time.
The Israeli visitors struggled to generate any sustained forward movement and chances on the Chelsea goal were even harder to come by. The result was sealed in the 59th minute with Diego Costa’s first Champions League goal in blue and an easy tap-in for Cesc Fabregas will come as a further confidence boost to a side which lately has been far from their best.
