Can the Blues start to build momentum?
With domestic losses in games where the Blues were heavy favourites, the importance of putting in a dominant showing with an opportunity like this could not be understated. Given Chelsea’s relatively relaxed Group Stage fixtures, Mourinho should rightly use these as a chance to test out new strategies and formations in a hope to respark their domestic title hopes. This result gives the manager alot to think about, as Fabregas showed that his talents are propbably best utilised further up the field instead of as a screener, and the fresh-faced backline was abile to limit the Maccabi attack to just one shot on target over the 90 minute.
Despite the quality of opposition, the result will give Chelsea a desperately needed boost to their confidence and with Arsenal suffering a shock defeat to Dinamo Zagreb at the same time, a sense of unpredictability will be added to this weekend’s domestic London derby.
