Three key talking points – Newcastle Jets vs Perth Glory

Newcastle will be out for revenge for their round 22 loss when they host Perth Glory on Saturday afternoon.

What’s happened to the Jets since their last meeting?

When these two met back in round 22, the Jets were riding high thanks to improved form and the crumble of Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory, with a win taking them within one point of the top six. However; as has happened so often in this fixture’s recent history, the Jets left WA with nothing to show for their efforts. Since then, the wheels have somewhat fallen off, with Scott Miller’s men losing to the Wanderers 1-0 and drawing 1-1 with Victory despite gallant efforts. With finals now out of the picture, this is the Jets’ chance at revenge for that season-ending loss.

Perth’s fine away form

Playing out of Western Australia was often seen as a huge setback for Perth Glory given the amount of travel interstate, and long stints away from home, but once again this season, Kenny Lowe has turned away form into the backbone of the Glory’s charge into the finals. From their last five matches outside of nib Stadium, they have managed four from their last five, and will be looking to clinch their seventh consecutive trip to Hunter Stadium without tasting defeat (having won four and drawn two of their last six)

Andy Keogh nearing goalscoring record

Key to the turn in form for Perth is the return of their Irish striker Andy Keogh, who, after leaving the club at the end of last season, has proven himself once again to the Glory fans with another run of brilliant form. So impressive in fact, the 29-year-old heads to Newcastle on the verge of equalling Marc Janko’s record of most consecutive goals scored in the A-League with seven. Heading into a clash against a Newcastle outfit that notoriously struggles against Perth, it seems likely the Glory goalscorer will etch his name into the history books this Saturday.
