Forget Sturridge and Benteke, Ings is where it is at

All of the focus against Norwich City was on whether or not Benteke and Sturridge would combine, however, after the Belgian departed with an injury, Ings had his opportunity and the partnership seemed far more fluen, albeit brief. The duet lined up together versus Villa and Saturday provided us with a microscopic view, and the result was very exciting to say the least. Ings and Sturridge are lethal finishers, we saw the former do it for Burnley, more recently midweek against Carlisle United and of course against the Canaries, while there is no need to reiterate what Sturridge can do. The pair also love to get in-behind and come short to collect the ball, while when in possession they rarely shy away from some trickery or indulge in too many unnecessary touches.

What is most enticing about this combination, is the ‘SAS’ like moments the pair share. At times, Ings displays glimpses of Luis Suarez’ movement and flair, while the hunger for goal is clearly evident. His willingness to chase everything will undoubtedly create chances, whereas his ability to kill the ball with his first touch and then either take on a shot or feed to it to Sturridge and Coutinho creates fluency, which is something Liverpool have lacked since their opening day fixture against Stoke City.
