Atalanta defence
Atalanta put in a fantastic performance defensively, containing the Milan forwards and making some brilliant tackles, while also frustrating the midfield. Atalanta winger Alejandro Gomez put in an excellent performance, terrorising Matti De Sciglio until the defender was substituted after nearly picking up a second yellow card. No matter, Gomez turned in the same performance against Davide Calabria.
End product failings
AC Milan had few chances in the first half with shots on goal, but were given a few more opportunities in the second half. They were, however, unable to find that elusive match winner. Luiz Adriano had a few attempts on goal, one with a header that went just wide, and they very nearly stole the game in the final minutes when Alessio Cerci raced clear from a counter, rounding the goalkeeper only to smash the ball into the side netting.
Winning streak over
AC Milan had won their last three matches and were looking to continue their winning ways when Atalanta came to the San Siro. Instead, they will be left feeling lucky to escape the game with a point. Were it not for the heroics of Donnarumma, they would have dropped all three points.
