By now, most would be aware what Riyad Mahrez is capable of.
The Leicester City winger was a vital cog in the Foxes’ stunning title success last season, quickly establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s – and indeed the world’s – best attackers.
So his superb strike in Algeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against continental minnows Lesotho on Sunday evening would have surprised very few people.
Lining up a free kick from 30 metres, Mahrez expertly picked out the top corner, leaving Lesotho’s goalkeeper to watch the ball hit the back of the net.
Mahrez’s strike was just one of six for El Khadra, who strolled to victory at Blida’s Stade Mustapha Tchaker. The result was made certain at half-time, with Algeria leading 5-0 going into the break.
African nations are currently vying for the right to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be played in Gabon early next year.
Algeria emphatically secured qualification into the tournament, topping Group J with 16 points. The next best was Ethiopia on 11.
