Leicester City’s 3-1 win against Manchester City at the Etihad last night showed exactly why they sit at the top of the Premier League.

A brace from Robert Huth and a goal from star man Riyadh Mahrez, accompanied by a spirited performance, was enough to comfortably see off the Citizens. Sergio Aguero grabbed a late goal, which proved to be nothing more than a consolation for the hosts.

The win lifted Leicester five points clear at the summit, while Tottenham’s win over Watford put them in second place ahead of Man City. It also ended a seven game unbeaten streak for Manuel Pellegrini.

How the press reacted to Leicester City’s stunning win at Manchester City

Manchester City

Joe Hart – 5: Was called into action on a number of occasions and did well to keep the scoreline down but was helpless for all of the three goals.

Pablo Zabaleta – 5: Supported in attack but was caught out in defence on a few occasions, especially when Leicester countered.

Martin Demichelis – 3: Showed exactly why City needed to sign another centre-back. His defending has been appalling throughout this season and this game was no different. Struggled against Huth for both of the German’s goals.

Nicolas Otamendi – 4: Could not deal with Vardy’s presence and the Argentine was simply not good enough throughout the 90 minutes.

Aleksandar Kolarov –5: Had the tough task of defending Mahrez and did little to halt the in-form Algerian. Although he was decent going forward, he could not get in any meaningful crosses.

Fabian Delph – 4: Was also in charge of dealing with Mahrez after being deployed on the wing and did not do a very commendable job.

Fernandinho –5: Was strong in midfield and did well to cut out Leicester breaks, but also often found himself out of position.

Yaya Toure – 3: Poor in possession and had absolutely no sense of positioning, it was an unusually poor outing for Toure who just did not seem to get in the game. Was replaced shortly after the break.

David Silva – 6: The Spaniard was one of the only lively City players in the first-half and caused some concern for the Leicester defenders, but slowly faded out of the game later on.

Raheem Sterling – 5: Got himself into good positions, but the end product let him down every time.

Sergio Aguero – 7: The Argentine was once again the best City player on the pitch and did extremely well to fight for any scraps that he could find, considering the lack of any quality service. Scored his side’s consolation goal and arguably should have had another towards the end.

Substitutes

Fernando – 5: Replaced Toure and did so much better than the Ivorian in midfield. Should have scored from close range, only to be denied by Schmiechel.

Kalechi Iheanacho – 5: Offered some attacking intent, although he could not get past a stubborn Leicester defence.

Bersant Celina – 6: Came on towards the end of the game and took most of the opportunity, assisting Aguero with a fantastic cross into the box.
