Crystal Palace have moved level with Tottenham in fifth place with a 1-0 win over Southampton at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Palace were dominant for much of the game and if it was not for a good performance from Paulo Gazzaniga the scoreline would have been much more one-sided. It took until 38th minute of the match to break the deadlock, with Yohan Cabaye able to get on the end of a Yannick Bolasie cross to score a tap-in.
The Saints were able to get some good chances though, the best of which fell to Steven Davis through a cross from Cedric, where the Northern Irishman forced a good save from Wayne Hennessey to prevent Southampton from taking an early lead.
Palace now move on to a game against Stoke at the Britannia, while Southampton return home to face Tottenham.
Crystal Palace
Wayne Hennessey – 7: Had a great game in goal, pulling-off a diving save to stop Southampton taking the lead and denying an attempt at an equaliser late on.
Joel Ward – 6: Prevented the Southampton left-sided players getting space to send crosses in.
Scott Dann – 6: Played some good diagonal balls forward and also made some key defensive clearances.
Damien Delaney – 6: Did well in dealing with the threats coming from Long and when Pelle came on did well against the Italian.
Pape Souare – 6: Combined with Puncheon and Bolasie when going forward and in defence was able to keep Mane fairly quiet.
Wilfried Zaha – 5: Was not able to have an impact on the game the way he would have liked, but was able to create some decent attacking opportunities.
James McArthur – 7: Had a good game defensively, breaking up the attacking movement of Southampton.
Yohan Cabaye – 8: Had a good game going forward and created chances for the Eagles. Was able to score the match winner from a Bolasie cross.
Jason Puncheon – 5: Had an okay game, although his passing was a little bit below-par, missing some easy targets.
Yannick Bolasie – 9: Was the best player on the field. Used his strength to his advantage and was able to get to the by-line which was how he was able to get the assist for the Cabaye goal. Also had some good chances on goal of his own.
Connor Wickham – 7: Still looking for his first goal of the season, but went close late on in the game that would have wrapped up the game for the Eagles.
Substitutes
Jordan Mutch – 5: Had little impact on the game after replacing Puncheon in the 85th minute.
Marouane Chamakh – N/A: Replaced Wickham with around a minute to go.
