Joachim Low: It would have been better for Muller to score at Euro 2016

German coach Joachim Low remains haunted by Thomas Muller’s goalless 2016 Euros Campaign, despite a return to form at international level overnight.

The Bayern Munich forward was on target twice as the reigning World Champions got their qualifying campaign off to the perfect against Norway, with Joshua Kimmich grabbing the other goal in 3-0 rout.

Muller’s run of poor form saw him fail to get on the scoresheet at any stage of the tournament, including a missed penalty during the quarter-final shootout win against Italy.

“We played very confidently, Norway did not come into play at all and had no opportunities to score,” Low told reporters following the match.

“For Thomas Muller, I would have preferred it if he would have scored some goals at the European Championship!

“He worked a lot and had many chances but did not score any goals.

“Of course there are things for us to improve – efficiency, for example, was the big problem against France [in the Euro 2016 semi-finals].”

It should be no surprise that the 26-year-old has quickly returned to form with his national side, after a strong start to the season with Bayern.

Muller has scored once and set up five others in his opening three games with the German giants already this season.
