Things continue to go from bad to worse for Aston Villa.

Thumped 4-0 by Chelsea at home in what was a soulless performance, the fans’ anger continued to simmer as another loss hammered one more nail in the Midlands club’s coffin.

Chelsea never looked troubled by Villa but the defeated were the centre of the tragic narrative once more. The club is set to lose its proud record of taking part in every Premier League season to date and the future appears very bleak – the inspiration for “proud history – what future?” signs, unfurled by supporters en mass in the 74th minute. Relegation is now almost certain.

Poignant was the booing of Leandro Bacuna by his own supporters, while successful passes were yet again met with ironic olés and cheers. All that culminated in the generally directed chorus of “you’re not fit to wear the shirt”.

Villa sit on just 16 points – a massive 12 off safety – and chairman Randy Lerner is a bitterly unpopular man under increasing pressure and animosity.

We’ve selected the best photos from a tough day at Villa Park where the claret and blue faithful continued to make their collective voices heard.
