Newcastle’s 2015-16 misery continued in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Sydney FC earlier this evening.

Needing to show the fans some positive intent, Sydney did not take long to exploit the cracks in the home side’s setup and went 1-0 up after 15 minutes, when Filip Holosko received a long pass from Milos Ninkovic and coolly finished from close range. Although the Sky Blues would have a number of chances to extend the lead, some nervousness in the dangerous areas kept Graham Arnold on his toes.

The narrow scoreline would prove to be enough for Sydney though, with the Jets once more unable to offer much threat of their own when moving forward. Vedran Janjetovic was not tested at all throughout the 90 minutes, as Scott Miller’s men go well over the 500 minute mark without recording a goal.

The points were sealed for the visitors in memorable fashion, with the returning Ali Abbas making it 2-0 for Arnold’s side in the 80th minute, to the visible delight of the traveling Cove.

Abbas received high praise following a needed win with the Sky Blues facing a tough couple of weeks ahead, while another loss without finding the net sends Newcastle faithful into a further pit of despair.

Here are the best reactions to come from Twitter after the result:
