Adelaide United consolidated their top six status after a dominant 3-1 win against bottom-placed Central Coast Mariners at Coopers Stadium on Saturday.
Second-half goals from Craig Goodwin, Pablo Sanchez and Mate Dugandzic rendered Fabio Ferreira’s sublime strike inconsequential as the Reds secured a deserved victory.
Both sides had glorious opportunities to take a first-half lead, but in a bizarre case of déjà vu, both Adelaide’s Marcelo Carrusca and the Mariners’ Ferreira dismally blasted their penalty attempts well over the crossbar.

However, midway during the first 45 proceedings took a back seat when news broke about the Mariners’ surprise capture of former Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia for the rest of the season.
After the interval, Goodwin sent the home crowd into a frenzy with a well-taken goal, before Ferreira atoned for his earlier spot-kick miss to restore parity with a sublime finish.
However, Sanchez put the side ahead courtesy of an audacious flicked header from Jimmy Jeggo’s corner, while Dugandzic ensured the three points remained in Adelaide after a simple tap-in.
