Melbourne City coach John van’t Schip is refusing to add to the recent impression on midfielder Aaron Mooy being the best player in the A-League.

The opinion was made by Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou on Wednesday, when he announced the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh in November.

“The best and most exciting player in the [A-League] at the moment is an Aussie [Aaron Mooy] and I don’t think that’s happened for a while,” said Postecoglou in an interview with Football Australia.

However, the Melbourne City boss was quick to state his star man’s feet were firmly on the ground.

“Aaron is very down to earth, he knows that every game again is different, and that’s what he’s doing, playing well,” van’t Schip has retorted.

“He’s not getting ahead of things, and we’re not getting ahead of things.”

With his recent starring performances, the 25-year-old will be pushing for Australian selection on a regular basis and much speculation may come to his future abroad should he keep up this great form. Yet, van’t Schip was only focused on the now.

“Aaron shows not only now, but also last season he’s a very consistent factor for our team, in everything we’re doing, scoring goals, assists, giving our play direction,” he said.

“He’s an important player, we know how things will go with talks, saying ‘he’s every time the best’.”

“I’m just happy he’s playing good football.”
