Sydney FC went ahead twice in a pulsating derby, emerging as winners with the Wanderers failing to capitalise on a dominant first half in front of a strong home crowd.

Matt Simon (Sydney FC) – The former Mariner has not impressed so far in his stint at Sydney FC, and Saturday night’s game was a continuation of a disappointing trend for the Sky Blues striker. Booked early in the piece, a second half substitution concluded a poor night.

Top three performers of the Sydney Derby

Nikolai Topor-Stanley (Western Sydney Wanderers) – Topor-Stanley improved as the match wore on, but ill-discipline in the late stages led to his side conceding a late winner to the Sky Blues. A solid performance with several unnecessary fouls.

Seb Ryall (Sydney FC) – Ryall could hardly be blamed for failing to provide any run during the Wanderers’ dominant opening half, but was caught napping on multiple occasions in the second half, on one occasion watching helplessly as Dario Vidosic skipped forward to equalise for Western Sydney.
