England striker Harry Kane was adamant post-match that they must move on from their disappointing 1-1 result with Russia and look forward to securing the three points against a flying Wales side on Thursday afternoon.

England dominated much of the game in Marseille and only had themselves to blame for not coming out winners against a Russian side who struggled to pose any serious threats.

They now travel to Lens with a historic international against Wales and Kane said everyone is relishing the occasion.

“We know the derby. We know how much it’s going to mean to us, the fans and everyone involved. We’re looking forward to it,” he said.

“All we can do is try and win the last two games in our group. That’s our aim. Obviously we wanted to win all three.”

“They’re players (against Wales) I’ve played against and a lot of us have played against. It gives us a little bit of inside knowledge.”

Kane echoed teammate Eric Dier’s positivity on the result despite the late equaliser, both pleased with the attacking approach from Roy Hodgson.

“I think we have to hold our heads up high. We played very well and created a lot of chances,” he said.

“That’s tournament football. Sometimes you get a sucker-punch in the end and we’ve got to take it on the chin and dust it off for the next game. “

“On another day it could have been three or four nil. We limited them to very few chances and we had plenty It was a good start.”

Anything less than a win against Wales will only raise the pressure on England and bring other results into play.

The match is set for a 3pm kick-off in Lens on Thursday afternoon.
