11 – Red Devils’ hell-like period 

Louis van Gaal and his charges established a solid base for themselves in the opening part of the season, boasting the best defensive record in the Premier League.

That record did not come without criticism, however, as United were regularly lambasted for playing boring football despite making in excess of £200 million in signings before the season began.

Eventually, boring football turned into outright poor football as United dropped out of the Champions League places after a winless run of seven, including losses against relegation-threatened Norwich City and AFC Bournemouth as well as the unpredictable Stoke City.

A 0-0 draw against Chelsea means United have not scored at home for the sixth time this season.

Performance often means little compared to results, but at the moment the Red Devils can take solace in neither as the pressure continues to mount on van Gaal, who is evidently feeling that burden.
