12 – Melbourne’s triple-victory

A trifecta of honours has not been available in the A-League for too long (unless you want to include the old Preseason Cup), but it took Melbourne Victory just two seasons two achieve the historic feat.

After winning the A-League championship and premier’s plate double in quite brilliant fashion, Victory’s attentions turned to claiming the two-year-old FFA Cup after Adelaide United claimed the inaugural edition.

Victory won each cup match within 90 minutes including a comfortable 2-0 win in the final against Perth Glory to add to an already burgeoning trophy cabinet that is Australian football’s fullest.

What remains for Kevin Muscat’s team is the Asian Champions League, a tough proposition given the Victory have never progressed past the group stage of the tournament in three attempts.
